LEAKEY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Nurse's Office

Notes from the School Nurse

With no newspaper to put out health and other topics  related to the school I decided I would at least put some information that you might find interesting and helpful on the webpage.

First let me say I am happy with how we are doing with the flu so far, only one confirmed case that I know of in our school.  I have seen several flu like illness but none have been severe.  I have seen one strep this week but a stomach bug seems to be our biggest issue.  Students are presenting with head and stomach aches that usually go with a fever.  The best prevention from getting this is handwashing and disinfectant sprays or wipes.

FYI, any of you over 50 that have had the chicken pox, get your shingles vaccine!  I advise this not only as a nurse but as one who found out the hard way.

I look forward to seeing you out at the Stock Show to support out students, you will find me in the concession stand, as usual with Dee Dee, but I believe this will be the last year, 17 years is enough someone younger is needed for the job.

Have a great rest of your week.
