Counseling

Students planning on attending a two-year or four-year college, university or trade school will need to complete one of the following financial aid applications. Applications need to be submitted for each year the student will attend an institution of higher educations. It is recommended that applications be submitted in December or January for the following fall semester. You may use the previous tax year IRS Returns to complete the financial aid application starting in October.

LUXTON, LEACH, MOORE & ANONYMOUS SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS

Guidelines

These scholarships are awarded based on financial need, character, citizenship, academic achievement and work history.  The amount of the scholarships will vary up to a total $12,000 or $1,500 per semester for qualifying seniors.  The scholarships are provided for selected graduating seniors of Leakey ISD planning to attend a state supported college, university or vocational institution.

 The following are qualifying criteria:

1.      The student does not have the means to attend college without financial assistance.

2.      The student must be eligible to attend a state college, university or vocational institution in the state of Texas.  No private schools are eligible for consideration.

3.      The student is required to submit an application, preliminary budget and a 250 to 500 word typed essay entitled “Why I Need & Deserve This Scholarship.” 

4.      Based on the essays and qualifications, students will be selected for interviews.

5.      The Luxtons and counselor will review the list of eligible graduating seniors in the spring term of each year prior to graduation.

6.      The Luxtons will interview candidates and make final selections.

7.      The scholarship recipients will be announced at Awards Day or Graduation Ceremonies.

 Mr. Luxton will meet with the senior class throughout the spring semester to provide the scholarship application and all prerequisites required.

 

Hill Country Telephone Cooperative

Hill Country Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (Hill Country) wants you to pursue your dream of obtaining a college degree. Whether you are seeking an associates, bachelors or technical certification, you may qualify for a Hill Country Scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must:

  • Graduate from high school by the end of the spring semester your senior year.
  •  Have at least one parent/legal guardian who is a member of Hill Country.
  • Plan to attend an accredited institution (college, vocational or technical school) on a full-time basis (at least 12 hours).

While above average grades are an asset, they are not required to compete for this scholarship as other factors will also be considered (i.e., leadership qualities, participation in extracurricular and community activities, and teacher recommendations).

Legal Guardian is defined as court-ordered. Member is defined as having service in the parent or legal guardian’s name. 

 

Janie Johnson Memorial Scholarship Sponsored by the Frio Canyon Chamber of Commerce

The Frio Canyon Chamber of Commerce, in honor of long-time educator Janie Johnson, is pleased to honor a graduating senior with a $1000 scholarship ($250 for each of 4 semesters).  For many years Ms. Johnson encouraged and reinforced the pursuit of educational excellence.  The Chamber acknowledges Ms. Johnson’s work by recognizing and promoting the continued educational achievements of a Leakey ISD student.  Through this scholarship program, the Chamber seeks to prepare students for the future by bringing the community, the school and the family together in partnership.

 Scholarship Requirements:

1.       Applicant must be a graduating senior of high moral character.

2.       Applicant must submit a 500-word essay on the importance of volunteerism/community service.  You may consider how you have been influenced by volunteer service; how the community has benefited or how volunteerism/community service will play a part in your future.

3.       Applicant must provide a minimum of three letters of recommendation from Adult Leaders with organizations they have donated community service work.

4.       Applicant must include a cover sheet with Essay Title, Name Address and Phone Number in the lower right corner.

5.       Applicant must submit three copies of the completed application to Mrs. Pat  Sewell, Leakey ISD Counselor.

6.       Applicant must be a full-time student (12 hours minimum) enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution.

The application will be provided by the counselor, when available, to the senior class.

The Janie Johnson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded TBA at the annual Awards night in May each year.

 

BANDERA ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE

Bandera Electric will award ten $2,500 scholarships annually. Recipients of the scholarships will be chosen based on the following:

  • Membership in BEC
  • Financial necessity
  • Written essay
  • Participation in community/school activities

Winners are chosen by a scholarship committee made up of co-op members and will be announced at the annual Awards night in May each year.

BEC scholarship application is available online only . The deadline varies each year.

History

The scholarship program was established in 1998 by Bandera Electric Cooperative to encourage and assist in the educational pursuits of its members and their immediate families.  Since then, we have awarded $175,000 in scholarships! 

Texas House Bill 3203, which was passed September 1997, permits not-for-profit electric cooperatives to retain unclaimed capital credit payments for scholarships.  The number of scholarships and the amount awarded can vary annually based on the unclaimed capital credit payments for that year.

Lions Club Scholarships

Scholarships available through District 2-2A  include  the Youth Contest for Diabetic Awareness Essay and Youth Contest for Drug Awareness Speech. 

Applications are provided to the senior class each year when available from the Lions Club and the deadline for all contests change each year.

Amount:  Annual scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to eligible students attending select community colleges and public universities in Stripes markets.

TEXAS DOVE HUNTERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

EXOTIC WILDLIFE ASSOCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Promoting conservation through commerce since 1963 by helping young men and women benefit themselves through high education. 

Guidelines and Rules:

The amount of the scholarships will total $4,000.00 or $500.00 per semester.  These scholarships are awarded based on financial need, character, academics, citizenship and work history.  They are provided to the  graduating high school seniors for the purpose of attending a State of Texas supported college, university, or vocational institution. No family member of the EWA Board Member shall be eligible.

When available applications will be sent to the graduating seniors and deadlines vary each year.
